Awards: Totaling approximately $8000, including the Nummie Warga Award of $2000
Jurors: Juror of Selection- Jack Koeppel, Curator, Delaware & Raritan Greenway Awards Juror – Siv Spurgeon, President, Philadelphia Watercolor Society, and a painter of watercolors who has won over 70 awards in both state and national competitions.
Eligibility: Open to all artists who are current residents of NJ, and who are over 18 years of age. Also open to those who live outside NJ but are current members of Garden State Watercolor Society. Specifications:
• All entries must be original in both design and execution, not a copy. Source material must be from your own design or your own photograph, and not class work. Subject matter should be artist’s interpretation of the exhibit theme “A Brush With Nature”.
• Art work must have been painted within the last three years, and not previously exhibited in any GSWS or D&R Greenway exhibit.
• Entry must be in watermedia: watercolor, gouache, acrylic, casein, inks or egg tempera on unvarnished paper. Yupo is permitted. Pastel or collage if used must be in conjunction with the watermedia which must be the dominant element. Watermedia collage is acceptable. All photographs, photo-collage and reproductions are ineligible.
• Artwork should be suitably framed, glazed and wired for hanging. No frames with clips can be accepted. Images exceeding 28” in any direction must be presented under plexiglass. Artists are responsible for any damages that result from improper framing. Minimum image size 10” x 14”. Artworks should be matted and the outer mat should be white or off-white. A colored liner may be used when double matting.
Entries
• Artists may enter one slide or high resolution digital (jpg) image. Slides must be 2” by 2” cardboard or plastic mounts. Silver mylar tape inside the slide mount is the only acceptable method for cropping. Slides and Cd's should be labeled with title, artist, and image size using fine point permanent markers. Accepted slides and CDs will not be returned. Digital image files should be named with artist’s last name and first initial. CDs should be labeled with name, address and phone/email.
Entry Fees:
• $20 for members and associates in good standing and $35 for nonmembers. Please make check payable to the Garden State Watercolor Society.
MAIL ENTRIES TO: GSWS Slides, 37 Sycamore Place, Princeton, NJ 08540 and include SASE for notification.
Sales Commissions: All artworks must be for sale. A donation of 35% of all sales goes to benefit the D&R Greenway Land Trust.
Liability: All artwork will be handled with utmost care, but neither The D&R Greenway nor the Garden State Watercolor Society assumes responsibility for loss or damage of any artworks.
Photography: Acceptance of artwork constitutes permission for Garden State Watercolor Society and the D&R Greenway to use photographs of the artwork for publicity, exhibit catalogue and promotional purposes.
2008 GSWS Open Juried Exhibit Calendar:
• September 15 (Monday) – All slides/CDs must be received. No exceptions.
• September 30 (Tuesday)- Notification begins
• November 10 (Monday) - Hand delivery of accepted work 11 AM – 1 PM
• November 17 (Monday) – Show opens to public. Monday – Friday from 10 AM – 4 PM
• November 21 (Friday) – Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony 5:30 – 7:30 PM
• January 12 (Monday) – 11 AM – 1 PM. All work must be picked up on this date. No accommodations can be made to store paintings beyond this date.
